Funes is Still Popular

According to a Mitovsky poll conducted between November 18 and 20, 79% percent of all Salvadorans approve of President Mauricio Funes.  Funes' approval numbers have increased 4% since August's poll (Contrapunto, El Mundo, and La Prensa Grafica).

Here are the results for Funes
  • 53% believe that Funes has the country on the right track while 40% disagree.
  • 50% say that his administration is not what they had hoped for.
Here are the results for country conditions
  • 87% say that economy has worsened while twelve percent say that it has improved.
  • 62% say that the security situation has worsened
  • 69% say that the country's politics have worsened while twenty-four percent say that it has improved.
  • 54% do not think that the Ley de Proscripción de pandillas will eradicate the gangs. (Doesn't sound like a good question.)
Here are the results for the parties
  • 34% have the intention of voting for the FMLN (an increase of 3%) while 26% have the intention of voting for ARENA (a decrease of 1%).
  • 53% agree that they should be allowed to vote for independent candidates and 43% said that they would vote for an independent.
Basically
  • Good news for Funes.
  • Not so good for the people of El Salvador.
  • Unclear what it means for the political parties preparing for the 2012 elections.
